Hak Ja Han, President of the Unification Church, is suspected of using church funds to engage in gambling worth 60 billion won (approximately 6 billion yen) in Las Vegas and other locations in the United States.
The gambling allegations against President Han first surfaced in 2022.
However, testimony has emerged stating that the matter was reported to the Presidential Office at the time but was not handled as a formal case. This testimony was given by the police officer who prepared the intelligence report concerning President Han’s overseas gambling activities.
Mr. A, who was affiliated with the Chuncheon Police Station, appeared as a witness on February 11, 2026, in the trial regarding allegations that President Han violated the Political Funds Act and other charges. In court, Mr. A testified that four years earlier he had received improper information about President Han from an insider of the Unification Church on three separate occasions and had prepared an intelligence report based on that information. At the time, after reporting the matter to his superiors, Mr. A uploaded the report to the internal police system. He explained that the report was classified as a special report and was also forwarded to the Presidential Office. However, the National Police Agency did not treat the contents of the report as a formal case, citing a lack of additional evidence. Instead, it was processed as a matter to be kept on file, according to Mr. A’s testimony.
Meanwhile, on that same day (February 11, 2026), President Han’s legal counsel once again requested the court to grant her release on bail.
